Description

Bike Grease

Bike grease is beneficial to have in stock as it is commonly used for almost every bike maintenance task. Bike grease is mainly used on bearings, but is also commonly used for any part of the bike that has threads. This grease for bikes is formulated specifically for application on bicycle components.

Bike grease helps reduce bearing drag, it resists water and resists corrosion, and it protects parts under extreme conditions. This particular model bike grease can be used on any part of your bike, but is particularly useful for making hubs, bottom brackets, and headset run more smoothly without noise or rubbing.

Bike Grease vs Bike Lube

The difference between bike grease and bike lube is important to know. The two visually look similar, and are commonly mixed up. Certain parts of your bike will need to be lubed, like your chain, while other parts of your bike will require a thicker grease, like your headset.

Bike grease is commonly used on parts of the bike where the naked eye generally doesn't see. You'll find bike grease in headsets and moving parts that are not opened very often. It's common use is to ease metal on metal connections, and to keep water and other debris from entering the bikes frame. Bike grease also helps grip two pieces together, for example, on our seat tubes and pedal crank arms.

Bike lube is commonly used on the exterior parts of your bike that will need maintenance such as your chain. Think of bike lube as the cleaning finisher and the bike grease as the sturdy, protective goo for your bikes parts. How often do you have to use bike grease on your bike?

Generally, bike owners will only use bike grease during the assembly process. During assembly you would grease the bearings, the headsets and the bottom bracket threads. While this is enough to initially ride your bike, it’s smart to reapply grease, depending on how often you ride your bike. If your feeling like your headset is rubbing on the internal frame or your bearings are starting to give out, its smart to reapply. Sometimes you may even need to overhaul a hub or a bearing assembly. In that case, you would clean all the old bike grease off and then replace it with the new bike grease for assembly again.
