The Tektro MD-M300 system is one of the best out there. It is a mechanical disc brake system that's designed for high speeds. It was the clear choice when developing the Tower Beach Bum electric bike, and a preferred configuration for many eBike enthusiasts.
Strength and heat dissipation. Disc brake manufactures have always been in a constant balance battle between strength and heat dissipation qualities. Basic rules of friction imply that if you create a strong braking system, it's going to get hot! Fortunately, the engineers at Tektro have developed materials that provide significant friction and brake power without absorbing heat. Warning- although the brake pads are engineered to dissipate heat, the brake rotor can still get extremely hot during use. Contact with a hot disc rotor can cause serious injury, so it's best to stay clear of the brakes immediately after riding.
Friction reducing actuation system. The brake calipers in this Aeries system utilize a ball ramp mechanism. This means that the brake pads on this system are on floating pads so they can automatically and consistently adjust to the rotor angle during braking. This system provides efficient and even braking to optimize the lifespan of the brake pads.
Long lasting pads with wear indicators. The pads included in this brake system are 2mm thick. They are made from a specially engineered organic resin compound that is extremely resistant to wear. The longevity of the brake pads differs based on riding speeds and conditions, but generally these brake pads can be expected to last over 1000mi. Fortunately, it's easy to tell when they are ready to be replaced. Once the thickness of the pad is reduced to .5mm thick, a small circle will appear in the corner of the pad.
