Description

Bike Inner Tube

When discussing how flat-resistant a bike is, bike tires get all of the love, but it’s really the bike inner tube and its tire liners that dictate how flat-resistant a bike truly is. Big name ebike companies notoriously will install fat tires on their ebikes to give the connotation that their bikes are more flat resistant. That really isn’t the case. Flat resistance is the collective responsibility of the of tire build itself, the tire liner protection (if any), and the strength of the bike inner tube. We at Tower have done the research for you and identified what we believe is the best valued bike inner tube on the market.

We know how annoying flats can be, and we want to help eradicate them from the bike world. These Kenda bike tubes will give you the added protection your tires need and deserve. They are extremely lightweight, durable and capable of handling pressure up to 55 PSI. This tire inner tube comes preinstalled with a Schrader Valve (also referred to as an American Valve). They are specially designed for 26" tires by 2.30"/2.40", which match perfectly with our electric cruiser bike.

When a bike has a flat tire it's fundamentally the bike inner tube that has popped, not the tire itself. Think of the bike tire as a protective outer shell and the bike inner tube as the inner rubber that actually inflates and holds the tire pressure. The reason your bike tires have air at all is thanks to the bike inner tube.

What Causes a Flat Tire

A variety of reasons can cause your bike inner tube to puncture. Whether it be a nail, excess force, a tiny prickle or glass the reason your tire has gone flat is due to a force puncturing through your bike tire and into the bike inner tube. The actual bike inner tube is very delicate and easy to puncture, thats why the outer rubber bike tire is there to protect it.

A lot of riders complain about flat tires when they can't find a visual explanation on why their tire has gone flat. The culprit, at least in most western U.S States, is a tiny thorn called a goat head. They are often invisible to the naked eye, and during many months of the year are littered everywhere on main roads and bike paths. One of our very own mechanics at our ebike repair shop said almost 50% of flat tire repairs we do here in San Diego are caused by goat head thorns. It's important to learn about goat head thorns on bikes and flat prevention techniques in order to avoid getting continuing flat tires.

How To Install a Bike Inner Tube

Replacing a bike inner tube can be a difficult task, especially if the tube that needs replacing is on the back tire. Check out our video that details how to fix a flat tire on an ebike.
